Atlas
Privacy
Atlas is operated by The Bench. This notice describes how Atlas and Envoy use the information you choose to share.
Conversations and your information
When you contact someone’s Envoy, your messages and enquiry details are stored so that their Envoy can respond and the owner can review and reply. If you choose to add a follow-up email, it is used for updates and links back to that conversation. The Atlas demonstration Envoy shares enquiries with the Atlas team.
Your private Atlas record, documents and unrelated conversations are not automatically shared with people who contact your Envoy. Shared Circles conversations are visible to accepted participants under the conversation’s permissions.
How the service works
Atlas uses service providers to run. Each one receives the information needed for its part:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and file storage.
- Vercel: hosting the website and the app.
- Fly.io: hosting the connection that carries Envoy’s phone calls.
- OpenAI: AI processing, including replies, reading the documents you add, and Envoy’s live voice on calls.
- Twilio: placing Envoy’s phone calls. Envoy only calls Australian numbers.
- Recall.ai: letting Envoy join an online meeting you send it to. It runs in zero data retention mode: no audio or video is recorded or kept, and what’s said is transcribed live into notes for you.
- Cloudmersive: checking files you upload for viruses.
- Resend: sending Atlas’s emails.
- Upstash: rate limits and usage counters that protect the service from abuse.
- Stripe: payments.
- Google Places, Serper and Adzuna: looking up businesses, searching the web and finding job listings.
- Apollo, People Data Labs, TheirStack and The Org: company and professional information, such as who works where and which companies are hiring. Atlas sends them the names of the companies and people it is researching for you, which can include your own name, employer and location.
- Sentry: error reports. Emails, phone numbers, message text and private links are removed before a report is sent, and there is no session replay.
- Apple: notifications to the Atlas iPhone app, if you turn them on.
Messages supplied to Envoy are processed to generate replies and enquiry summaries.
When Atlas is finding the right person at an organisation for you, it may use public LinkedIn profiles as they appear in web search results: the name, title and short summary the search shows. Atlas never opens LinkedIn pages, signs in to LinkedIn or contacts anyone through it. It reaches people through their organisation’s own channels, or drafts a message for you to send yourself.
What Atlas knows about you
Atlas keeps a private record of facts about your working life, such as your roles, skills and what you want next, so it can help without asking again. Atlas suggests each fact from what you tell it or the documents you add, and nothing is kept until you choose Keep. Each fact shows where it came from and when. Facts stay until you remove them. If a fact hasn’t been confirmed for 180 days, Atlas asks whether it’s still right and doesn’t use it as current until you say. You can correct or remove any of it, download it, or turn the record off. Sensitive details are only kept if you agree to each one. Your record is used only for work you ask Atlas to do, and nothing in it is shared with anyone unless you approve that exact use.
Support
Atlas isn’t a crisis or counselling service. If things feel too heavy, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Gmail, Outlook and your calendar
Connecting Google or Microsoft is your choice. If you connect one, Atlas asks only for permission to send email and to use your calendar: it can send emails you’ve approved, check when you’re free, read your calendar events (title, time, place and description, for example to find a meeting link) and add events. Atlas never reads your inbox. You can disconnect at any time, and Atlas then deletes its stored access to that account.
Envoy outreach
When you ask, Envoy contacts people and businesses on your behalf by email, phone call or by joining a meeting. It always says that it is an AI acting for you: at the start of a call or meeting, and in every email. It keeps notes of what was said, never audio.
Envoy only calls within calling hours in the other person’s time (weekdays 9am to 8pm, Saturdays 9am to 5pm, never on Sundays or national public holidays). It won’t call a number it found on the web unless that number has been checked against the Do Not Call Register. It may call a business on the number from its Google Places listing, or a number you give it yourself.
Anyone Envoy contacts can tell it to stop. After that, no Envoy contacts them again unless they opt back in. To do this, we keep a scrambled (one-way hashed) copy of their email address or number, not the address or number itself.
Where your information is held
Atlas’s database and files are held by Supabase in India (Mumbai), and the app runs on Vercel in the same region. Envoy’s call connection runs in Australia (Sydney). Envoy’s meeting service, Recall.ai, runs in Japan (Tokyo). Sentry holds error reports in the United States. Our other providers, including OpenAI, Twilio, Stripe, Resend and the search and company-information services, may process information in the United States and other countries.
That means your information is sent outside Australia.
Security and retention
We use account access controls, private conversation links and abuse limits. Operational records help us investigate errors and protect the service. Conversations and records are retained to support ongoing use; archiving a conversation does not delete it. Notes from Envoy’s calls and meetings are kept until you delete your account, or until you ask us to delete them. Avoid including sensitive information that is not needed for your enquiry.
If you join the pilot waitlist, we keep your email address and the option you chose, only to contact you about the pilot. Ask us and we'll delete it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Atlas. It is deleted for good 7 days after you ask; until then you can change your mind by signing in. As soon as you ask, your Envoy page and every link you made stop working, and anything your Envoy was doing stops.
After the 7 days we remove your profile, record, documents and files, conversations with Atlas, call and meeting notes, missions, people, settings and connected accounts, and your Envoy. Your subscription is cancelled and your customer record at Stripe is deleted.
Some things are not removed:
- Messages and comments you wrote in Spaces with other people stay for them, shown as from “Former member”, because they received them.
- Anything already sent to someone else, such as emails Envoy sent or what was said on a call, stays with them.
- Our providers keep some records under their own rules. For example, Stripe keeps payment records it must keep by law.
- Our database host, Supabase, keeps daily backups of the database for 7 days, so deleted records can stay in a backup for up to 7 days. These backups don’t include stored files, so a deleted document isn’t kept in them. We also keep our own copies of the database for recovery, held securely for up to 30 days, then deleted.
- Error reports (without your personal details) are kept by Sentry for a limited period.
- We keep a short record that a deletion happened (an id that no longer leads to you, and dates) so we can show it was done.
- If you are part of an organisation on Atlas, such as an employer team, we may need to finish the deletion by hand, and nothing is removed until we do.
Your choices
You can choose whether to provide a follow-up email and owners can manage notification preferences. You can download everything Atlas holds for you from your account. To ask about access, correction or deletion of your information, contact the Atlas team through Envoy. We do not sell your information.
